REGIONAL ANAESTHESIA
Dr Vanza has a passion for regional anaesthesia. This involves the targeted placement of local anaesthetic around nerves using ultrasound guidance. Advantages of a nerve block include:
Dr Vanza has a passion for teaching and currently provides tutorials to anaesthetic trainees at St George Hospital. Over the past two years he has also been teaching nerve blocks to Emergency Physicians at the St George Hospital Emergency Department.
Dr Vanza has also been involved in teaching other specialist anaesthetists at local and national regional anaesthesia courses. These include:

- Minimal/reduced pain upon waking up from general anaesthesia
- Lighter general anaesthetic resulting in less drowsiness, nausea and vomiting
- Less requirement for pain killers after the operation
