Dr Neil Vanza is a specialist anaesthetist working in both public and private practice across Sydney, Australia. His areas of expertise include anaesthesia for orthopaedic, major cancer, obstetric, gynaecological, cardiac electrophysiology, head and neck, and ophthalmic surgery. He has a particular interest in regional anaesthesia (nerve blocks), which he uses to enhance patient comfort and support post-operative pain management.
Dr Vanza graduated with Honours from the University of New South Wales in 2003 and completed his anaesthetic training at St George Hospital, a major tertiary referral centre with a strong focus on trauma, oncology, obstetrics and paediatrics. He was awarded his Fellowship with the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists (FANZCA) in 2013, following a fellowship year at Concord Hospital. He then undertook further fellowship training at Sunnybrook Hospital in Toronto, Canada — home to the country’s largest trauma and cancer centre. There, he dedicated half of his clinical time to ultrasound-guided regional anaesthesia, developing advanced skills in this field. Teaching is an important part of Dr Vanza’s professional life. He has coordinated the Regional Anaesthesia Workshops at the ANZCA Annual Scientific Meeting in 2018 and 2023, helping to train consultant anaesthetists from across Australia and New Zealand. He currently leads the Regional Anaesthesia Program at St George Hospital and provides regular tutorials for anaesthetic trainees. Outside of medicine, Dr Vanza enjoys spending time with his wife and two children. He is a keen runner and also practises yoga and enjoys travelling. |
