Dr Neil Vanza is a specialist anaesthetist in both public and private practice in Sydney, Australia. His areas of expertise include anaesthesia for orthopaedic, major cancer, obstetric, gynaecological, cardiac electrophysiology, head and neck, and ophthalmic surgery. He has sub-specialized in regional anaesthesia (nerve blocks). Graduating with Honours from the University of New South Wales in Sydney in 2003, he completed anaesthetic training at St George Hospital, a large tertiary centre providing surgical services in trauma, cancer care, obstetrics and paediatrics. His first fellowship was completed at Concord Hospital and he was awarded his FANZCA (Fellow of the Royal Australian New Zealand College of Anaesthetists) in July 2013. A second fellowship was completed at Sunnybrook Hospital in Toronto, Canada, which has the largest trauma and cancer care centre in Canada. During this fellowship he spent 50% of his time performing regional anaesthesia (nerve blocks) under ultrasound guidance. Dr Vanza believes regional anaesthesia is an excellent modality in post operative pain management. Dr Vanza has a passion for teaching. He has been the coordinator for the ANZCA ASM (Annual Scientific Meeting) Regional Workshops in 2018 and 2023, with the aim of teaching regional anaesthesia to consultant anaesthetists from all over Australia and New Zealand. Currently he is the supervisor of the St George Hospital Regional Anaesthesia Program and provides fortnightly tutorials to anaesthetic trainees. Outside of anaesthesia and medicine, Dr Vanza is married with 2 children. His interests are spending time with family, running, yoga and travel. |
